Discussion Week 3:

Pick one truth out of the three points that pastor provided and share why that spoke to you the most.

Ezra 6:6 & 10 this Ezra came up from Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him. 10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek[a] the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

3 Truths

1. The Word is the Lord’s v.11-13, 21, 25-26

  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • 1 Peter 1:21

2. The Word is the Law v. 6, 12, 13, 21, 25, 26

What do we know about the Law?

  1. It is Good
  2.

    • Romans 7:12 12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
    • 1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully,

  3. It is a Glass (Mirror)
  4.

James 1:22-25 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

  5. It brings Gladness
  6.

    • Psalm 19:8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
    • Psalm 119:1 …Blessed are they who walk in the law of the Lord

  7. It provides Guardrails
  8.

    • Psalm 119:101101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word.

  9. It points us to God through his Son
  10.

    • Galatians 3:24 24 Therefore the law was our [a]tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

3. The Word is Life

Ezra 7:26 26 Whoever will not observe the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily on him, whether it be death, or [h]banishment, or confiscation of goods, or imprisonment.

Leviticus 18:5 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.
Deuteronomy 32:44-47 Near the end of Moses life…

44 So Moses came with [k]Joshua the son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 Moses finished speaking all these words to all Israel, 46 and he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a [l]futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”

John 6:60-63 Many Disciples turned away because Jesus words were hard to understand 61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples [n]complained about this, He said to them, “Does this [o]offend you? 62 What then (how much more) if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Psalms 119:50 & 116 This is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has given me life. Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures
